Find out how COVID-19 is impacting employment-based immigration to the United States

Any employment visa can be filed with USCIS like it was before and get approved. However, upon approval, there most certainly will be an issue with getting the actual visa to enter the United States. Most embassies work with a limited capacity and do not offer any work visa interviews. Even at the embassies that do offer interviews, there is limited appointment availability and there may be increased wait times for processing applications due to substantial backlogs.

For example, the United States Embassy and Consulates in Germany have resumed certain immigrant and nonimmigrant visa services including:

  • All immigrant and K (fiancé(e)) visa categories;
  • Nonimmigrant visas as follows:
    • Travelers with urgent travel needs;
    • F, M, and certain J visas; and
    • Limited appointments for work visas (including E, H, L, O, and P visa categories.

The Embassies in India and China do not offer any visa interviews at all.

But most embassies allow to schedule only urgent and family related interviews or the C visas for Crew members.

U.S. Embassy Bangkok and U.S. Consulate General Chiang Mai (Thailand) are now scheduling immigrant and nonimmigrant visa appointments for all visa categories!

The U.S. Embassy Manila, Philippines has resumed certain nonimmigrant visa services, including in the F, M, and certain J categories, C1/D, E, I, O, an P visas, and certain immigrant visas including IR1, IR2, CR1, CR2, and EB3 nurses.

The U.S. Embassy in Belfast and the U.S. Consulate in Belfast (United Kingdom) currently are open for emergency visa services only.

But most US Embassies are still closed and do not offer any interviews. You can check online or try calling the embassy in your country to find out more.
